We think we have started this letter a dozen times in the last week: trying to tell all of our guests, our friends, that Black Island Resort has been sold. After 18 seasons of having the greatest job on the planet, we have decided to hang up our spatulas and Muskie poles. Eighteen seasons of serving all of you have been our pleasure and we will miss continuing to do so. Especially when summer rolls around!

Almost two decades ago when we started we never could have foreseen the success that we have achieved. Because of all of you, we have created a lifestyle that is the envy of many people. We consider all of you to be dear friends and we would like to keep in touch.

The folks who were wise enough to acquire one of the greatest spots on earth are from Baudette and own & operate Ballard’s Resort. Being in the business for so many years, the partners from Ballard’s know the business and how to take care of their guests. We think this young, talented group of professionals will only improve your Black Island experience in the years to come. We recommend that you give these new folks a try.

During the transition, we may run into some of you at the island. Naturally, you can contact us anytime. We will always have time for our friends from Black Island. For those of you who have reservations and deposits paid, rest assured that they have been passed along and your reservations confirmed.

We will miss you all. Have a wonderful a prosperous New Year!

Black Island guests… A grand HELLO from your new friends at Ballard’s Black Island.

 

We are so excited!!! The history of Lake of the Woods has very much been a part of our family for over the past 50 years.  And now we are adding a new destination to our existing tradition.

 

A bit of history… Located on the south shore, on the Minnesota side of Lake of the Woods, our current resort is now phasing into its third generation of family. We have been providing full service fishing adventures to anglers just like you since day one. Catching fish, providing exceptional facilities and service, and having FUN is what we are all about.

 

For the past three years we have combed the islands on the lake in search of the perfect multi-specie fishing location. And last summer when we met Mike and Barb on the shores of Black Island we knew that we had found another home. Their attention to detail, care of the facilities, and personal attachment with their guests left a lasting impression for what we will carry on well into the future.

 

The Ballard family has been assembled… And we look forward to having you join us this summer! Nick, Jessie, Gary, and Stephen are anxiously preparing for your arrival. With forty-one years of combined resort experience, your next trip and many more to come, are sure to be full of memorable adventures.
