F.A.Q.

AT BLACK ISLAND RESORT we have a commitment to your satisfaction. We know your leisure time is important to you. Equally important is the value you receive for your dollar. Because of this, selecting an angling or hunting destination presents a number of unusual, yet important considerations and questions.

Question: When is the best time of year for my fishing or hunting trip?

Answer:

There really is no "best time". What should dictate your decision as to when to come to Black Island are the aspects of the trip most important to you, such as:
  • What species you most enjoy fishing for
  • What game you wish to pursue
  • How you like to fish or hunt
  • Weather considerations
  • Other activities you enjoy while at Black Island
For example, if fishing is the most important aspect of your trip and you want to fish for Northern Pike, trophy Walleye and Lake Trout in shallow water, you should be looking at a May to mid-June reservation. If, however, you prefer the fast action that Smallmouth Bass can provide along with some good Northern action then a mid-June through July trip is what you should plan. Naturally, hunting seasons dictate when your game pursuits will take place.
Other points to consider before making your reservation might be the weather, insects or other activities such as combination hunting-fishing trips. This far north, May and June are our spring months. Weather can be unpredictable with normal temperature ranges from the mid-forties to the high eighties. July and August are stable with normal lows in the mid-sixties to highs in the eighties. If there are children in your group, July or August offer consistent fishing action with air and water temperatures high enough to enjoy swimming and other outdoor activities.
There are always trade-offs and no one can predict what the weather and the fish and game will be doing. However, we will carefully listen to what it is you want from your trip and give you the best advice we can based on what historically happens during our seasons.
